Versameling: Catherine Deudon

Born in Orléans in 1940, Catherine Deudon became politically aware through the Algerian War and reading Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sexat the age of 16. In the 1960s, she assisted the photographer Denise Colomb. She encountered the Women’s Liberation Movement in 1970 and began photographing its demonstrations, primarily in Paris from 1970 to 1971, continuing through to the "Ni putes, ni soumises" ("Neither Whores Nor Submissive") movement in the 2010s.

In 1978, she traveled to Indonesia documenting every day life, architecture, portraits, landscape. Less known than her Women’s Liberation Movement collection, her photographs of Indonesia moved us, and we wanted to offer Catherine Deudon this space to make them better known.
